If this nation goes into a hard dystopian slide, you won't need to be in a nice home and neighborhood to be at risk. Just having property will attract unwanted attentions - any kind of property, especially if it's of the kind someone can steal for themselves or sell will be enough to make you a target. Plan accordingly.
