I've read for the last 2-3 years that the recommendation of drinking red wine for improved cardiovascular performance has now been terminated.
They're now saying that the damage from the alcohol in the red wine creates more problems than the cardiovascular improvement.

Just lost one of my brothers from drinking. Drank himself right to death. He died a miserable death the night of 17th of March. Took 7 months after they told him he was done for. Had to constantly go and have fluid drained from his belly and finally, it got so the fluid would build up and rupture out of his belly button before he could get in to have it drained. The last week of his life he could not get out of bed and the one time he did, he fell and tore the skin right off his arm and head. I guess it looked like a murder scene. The next night he was choking on his own phlegm and they had to constantly clear it out of his throat. He died sometime around midnight.

It aint no way to go.
