According to The Wall Street Journal, tax officials in New York state are auditing New Jersey residents’ tax returns. Empire State officials argue New Jersey residents who usually worked in New York before the COVID-19 pandemic but are now working remotely still need to pay New York income taxes.

Now that’s weird. St. Louis has a lot of Illinois workers. And St. Louis has a city tax. The way it works is, if you are physically in the city, you pay the tax.
Anytime your job takes you outside the city, business trip, audit in a different city, you don’t pay the tax.
It shouldn’t be an issue, the truth of the matter should already have been spelled out in the Revenue Code.
The communist in NY are basically putting the burden on the individual to prove they don’t owe the tax, so the individual has to expend time and money to fight them. They are banking most won’t fight and will just pay it.
New York has been taxing out-of-state telecommuters to in-state NY companies since at least 2006.
