I never thought it would happen to me!
April 16th, Kiteboarding at Desoto Beach Florida, I fell and when I stood up Bam!! Stingray Barb right in the bottom of my foot!! The bastard got me good because the water turned Crimson around me almost immediately! I made my way back into the beach, wrapped my foot the best I could, stowed my gear in the van and headed to Palm Medical Center near Treasure Island.
Long story short, I got 2 X-rays on my foot to check for pieces of the Barb, a little saline flush syringe, and the Doc glued the loose skin and filled the hole. Told me no water for 2 weeks... I came home!
Last week I got 2 calls from their billing department. the first was mild, but the second one today, was pushy, trying to get me to sign up for Medicaid to pay for the bill. The first call wouldnt tell me the amount. but told me they would send the bill in the mail. Today's call, told me the amount was $8000 and change... I said are you Bleeping kidding my?? 2 xrays, a plastic syringe douche and glue is 8K???? Her response!?? Well if you sign up for Medicaid, they will pay it no problem!!!
I lost it and told her that I think I'm getting ripped off, and i'll be damned if I'm gonna allow you to rip of the Tax payers!!
Now granted, 8K isnt jack in the medical field. but its just the friggin point... How determined the girls were to get me to sign up to pay the bill... friggin Crazt!!
so, I think its a clear case of fraud... who do I lay this on for the best results??
Actually, here again you dont know what you are talking about. What you are referring to is called spend down. If you are going to a long term facility which is paid by medicaid, in order to get that fruit of someone else labors, you must actually be indigent.
So, I guess someone made a choice to participate in a sport with risk, without being able to pay for it, and now demands that someone else take care of him (complete with the risk of litigation) without any personal responsibility.
The commie liberals could not be more proud

Well sure they can. There may be loopholes to exploit, as there always are in any transaction, but they could publish what it costs to rent a gurney for 4 hours, what a CT scan costs, what a broken wrist cast costs etc.
I agree, they couldn’t know what may be required, but they could certainly set a price on what various medical services cost.
Side track: I was in the ER last summer. I dreaded going because it was near peak Covid but I really needed to go. I sat in my draped off room and to their credit it took them 2 or 3 questions to figure out the problem. It wasn’t Dr. House type stuff. But while I lay there, I heard them call all hands on deck for multiple victims of a car accident. First they wheeled in the guy badly hurt - he was the victim. He had major pain, and a watermelon sized bruise on his torso. He refused to have a CT scan but agreed to an X-Ray. The nurses said “OK” and then when they wheeled him away said “make sure the imaging department does a CT scan”. He probably needed it, I don’t suspect fraud. Then the next guy came in, accompanied by police. He had a broken finger. He admitted to the police that he was drinking and smoking pot when he crashed into the other car so hard it pushed the car, and the victim, into a tree. They read him his Miranda rights on the spot and cuffed him to the gurney. They should’ve billed him for the handcuff rental.
Actually you play hard ball enough and you might might get it under $1000. Go for it.
Its because you do not understand the law. There can only be a single charge, which is subject to complete care of everyone — so this is the market at work under onerous regulations. Get educated before commenting. Had this person actually spent a little money on insurance, there would not be this problem. But I bet his sport of choice has expensive boards and things in order to play — but he wants to pass his costs on to everyone else.
It certainly pokes holes in the liberal fairly tale that the uninsured are dying in the streets, when they’re actually kiteboarding in florida.

How much did your board cost. How much did you trip cost. I bet you could have afforded insurance if you chose responsibility over luxury — but now you are willing to screw someone else who is by law required to take care of you
Marx could not be more proud.
What he ^ said
stfu dumb ass... Where did I ever say I was good recieving “Free Health Care”
Piss off
hey, that’s a steal. you got any idea how many copperheads you gotta milk to get that much anti-venom? and it makes them very, very angry.
Many on Medicaid in nursing homes are not indigent....they tucked away property in trusts.
.
No the real criminals are the Insurance and Medical Cartels. Break them up and the price of medical care comes down, maybe as much as 80%. They are monopolies, there is no reason for Medical Health Care Costs to be almost 20% OF GDP when the norm in most countries is at the most 5%.
You Doctor are part of the problem, not any solution, you seem to be in great favor of Big Government Health Care.
you are receiving free health care. the amount you’re paying never find it’s way into the health care system. you’re funding the bad debt industry.
Yup. I did a quick search. Cost of a kite board — $2000 on average. Cost of a trip to Florida, probably another $2000. At the minimum. Cost of private insurance on the exchange? Under $300 / month. So if this poster took the $4000 vacation, he could have health insurance for 36 months.
But he wants to stick the dedicated professionals WHO MUST BY LAW take care of him. It actually cost the MD money to care for this patient. Disgusting.
And the anti-venom is a couple of hundred bucks in Mexico.
I had 10K worth of Kites, Boards, Foils, and Harnesses in my van!! I spent 125 a night in a Hotal, I spent 500 plus On food and Drink.... But I’ll be God Damned if I pay *k for 2 fkg X-rays and a saline rinse and glue!! You fault me for that!!?? your ass be;longs at DU!!
You are not paying, you are comfortable sticking someone with your costs. You are going to let it go to collections . You have received free health care. Sorry you dont like the holes poked in your sanctimony “I dont accept handouts”. You have decided to screw over people who by law have to serve you
What did you pay for your kite board. What did you pay for your vacation. And yet you choose not to have health insurance.
You are the jackass. You have accepted a hand out. Deal with it. Or pay the bill.
You are a dumb ass. I am not the problem. I am required to care for everyone. Period. Given that > 50% of the medical bills are paid by government, the problem is the government. It would take me about 3 seconds to fix the system.
But the fact that we have people like you and the OP who are willing to stick it to people because you are entitled to the fruits of other peoples labor, you are the problem
Mexican copperheads are all stoned. Much less cranky.
