I never thought it would happen to me!
April 16th, Kiteboarding at Desoto Beach Florida, I fell and when I stood up Bam!! Stingray Barb right in the bottom of my foot!! The bastard got me good because the water turned Crimson around me almost immediately! I made my way back into the beach, wrapped my foot the best I could, stowed my gear in the van and headed to Palm Medical Center near Treasure Island.
Long story short, I got 2 X-rays on my foot to check for pieces of the Barb, a little saline flush syringe, and the Doc glued the loose skin and filled the hole. Told me no water for 2 weeks... I came home!
Last week I got 2 calls from their billing department. the first was mild, but the second one today, was pushy, trying to get me to sign up for Medicaid to pay for the bill. The first call wouldnt tell me the amount. but told me they would send the bill in the mail. Today's call, told me the amount was $8000 and change... I said are you Bleeping kidding my?? 2 xrays, a plastic syringe douche and glue is 8K???? Her response!?? Well if you sign up for Medicaid, they will pay it no problem!!!
I lost it and told her that I think I'm getting ripped off, and i'll be damned if I'm gonna allow you to rip of the Tax payers!!
Now granted, 8K isnt jack in the medical field. but its just the friggin point... How determined the girls were to get me to sign up to pay the bill... friggin Crazt!!
so, I think its a clear case of fraud... who do I lay this on for the best results??
X-Rays for a Sting-Ray injury?
Well, glad you didn’t go the way of the Crocodile Hunter.
Hope you get it worked out. I’m half retired now. Don’t know if I can take on the big Florida Medicaid scammners. Discovery will be a bitch. Plus I’ll have to visit the site of the injury, first class tickets, hotel - $8000.00 retainer should do it.
Yes, I did see the cost of the toys. Again, I’m not taking sides.
Since you are a doctor, what would you say is a reasonable cost for the procedure he had done?
What I think is reasonable is not important. What insurance would pay is approximately $2000 to the facility to cover their costs
$500 to the physician.
Medical and insurance costs are too high for individuals. Members of collectives are required to pay less, and some of the members of the medical and insurance rackets are pay far more than they’re worth. Many of them pay nothing for medical services. Who pays large parts of insurance packages for the more equal animals? So-called consumers. Customers and taxpayers.
Don’t allow the psychopaths to weld your hook to the bottom about unethical billing practices or anything else. Ignore the very concept of “self-esteem.” Many people in big corporate management have been trained to reject the fake psychology of self-esteem. That training has even been called, at times, “The Unfair Advantage” (Miller). Self-esteem an unhealthy thought that should be avoided. It’s a tool for controlling people who believe in it.
Simply do things. You are what you try to do. Be happy.
you’re being dishonest. you can’t really overcharge someone who had no intention of paying in the first place. you’re getting indignant over the price of something that you knew you were going to steal the second you saw the blood.
are you trying to sound ignorant or are you un aware of it??
I think I was being screwed on a bill? Economics failure? I think not...
Two south east Asia trips a year, plus several times in FLA... Finances Failure?? I think not...
I just refuse to be ripped off. you are obviously good with it no matter who the victim is. me, medicaid, Medicare, the tax payers, the un insured, the insured... the companies who pay what they pay, and the deductables that the insured have to pay... youre good with all that.... smh...
Hospital services are expensive beyond competition , so their administrations can live lavishly send their kids to private $ schools , and keep attempting OBodyMortgagers scamming.
Check to see which (all) they’ve lobbied to remain non competitive.
Oh yes — welcome. You and Hanoi Jane think we should take care of you for free. So tell me, your highness, you think its ok for someone to have 10k in toys and not pay his bills? You are insane
communications skills. fail.
$2,000 and $500. Do you think those costs are a little extreme for the aid he received? Just as a personal opinion, not a doctor.
The state of Florida is widely competitive, Recently the CON status has been rescinded and free market forces are introduced. However, tell me what you think is ok in terms of pay.
I will come to your business, and decide what I should pay, not what the market has determined. Lets see how long you stay in business.
Two South East Asia trips. 10k in kite boards. No insurance? Wow are you an entitled commie.
You are the victim? You have a lavish lifestyle without taking care of the fundamentals, demanding that someone else pay for it. Wow. You are either fatally stupid or a committed liberal.
Tithing
you cannot be screwed on something you were planning to steal in the first place.
Are you sure it was the Hospital billing that called you?
Sounds an awful like a boiler room sign up type company and the callers get commission for each signup.
Wait for the bill, I bet it’s not $8,000. I think the caller made that number up to scare you.
I smell a con. Do not give them any personal information. Or any information at all.
Well, he had radiology services because a retained FB is an emergency and could cause significant down stream costs. I assume this was weekend / after Hours. Xray has base costs, then the tech who had to come in on call to take the films. The radiologist who had to read the films. The time occupying the space during the work up. The lab costs for the CBC / and labs to determine how far advanced the potential infection, inflammation, or blood loss (remember immediately the water turned crimson). The RNs who assisted in the care, probably started the IVs the fist dose of antibiotics because IV is warranted if there is potential bone injury that could lead to osteomyelisis. The cost to find out this jackass has no insurance, the emergency care rendered by the treating physician...
I count 2 MDs
1 RN
1 Radiology Tech
3 -4 hours in the ER
IV costs and antibiotics most likely
This would cost approximately $500 / hour if the experience took four hours, and the pay is spread across 2 doctors, at least one RN, One tech, and the cost of keeping an ER open, the regulatory costs for safety, the risk mitigation for some asshole who doesnt want to pay his bills....yeah I think $2500 is pretty cheap for this level of care.
They let him out didn’t they?
Actually, I think it probably was the hospital or urgent care trying to fill the medicaid pending bucket.
