Why are they trying to kill the base?

I've never seen so many stories of "leading" figures in a Party trying to cr*p on their own base...

Bush
Cheney
Romney
Flake
Hogan

You name it.

Every day there are new stories where they take shots at Republican voters for various reasons or they come out and back one another.

Can anyone tell me if they have seen anything like this before?

I'm not that old but I do know some history and I guess it's comparable to the Goldwater era in the 1960's?

Perhaps some Freepers can fill me in on these kind of historic struggles within the GOP and what happens next?

If you thought the extent of their corruption was worse than you could imagine, the answer is it’s even worse than that.

Think of it as very dark and secretive.

“but it didn’t persist after the election”

Meh, the same schmucks tried to force George Bush on us when the base wanted Reagan. So it seems to me it definitely persisted.

The Democrats aren’t so great. The so-called “Press” is on their side, that is all.

The presstitutes seek out and publicize Republican dissension. They gloss-over and hide the dissension of the Left.

AOC and the muzzie hate squad are a real split of the Left that the fake-news tries to manage as best it can, for them.

Trump was the right man in the right place in time, obviously. He won.

Sure they hate him personally. They also hate that he came from New York without ever holding office and grabbing the win. He was an “outsider”. He owed no favors and was owed none.

But it didn’t have to be Trump. It could have been someone else. Trump’s advantage on personality was that he was a known personality to the voters. But what got Trump elected and what makes him popular even to this day are his policies and relentless pursuit of them in the face of incredible adversity and resistance. I agree, spending was out of control. It always has been and that didn’t stop. He was attacked so mercilessly that they (left and “moderates”) displayed incredible desperation as if they had something major to lose. Which is highly suspicious on its face.

What they don’t get is that they CANNOT WIN unless they embrace his messages and policies. They cannot win by attacking him. They don’t seem to care, which means that they view his policies as a threat to something they hold dear - you can guess at that as well as anyone... cheap immigrant labor, sellout to Chinese, one world order, insider dealings and payola, drug money, arms deals, corruption etc etc. A whole city, a Capitol, intelligence services, federal agencies and departments, swaths of the military even all aligned against the man and his policies. It says a lot more than what it says in words.

The OP is right to ask “when has this happened before”? It used to be gentle people could agree to disagree. It used to be that when a POTUS left office, they stayed quiet (one president at a time) and the swamp moved on to whatever agenda they have this cycle. That has all changed. They are completely unhinged and full of red faced hatred. It’s not a good look.

The conservative wing: ex: Reagan

Country-club wing: ex: The Bushes

Ike was a good President but he was somewhere between the two categories.

I think Nixon and Ford were also not full-on Country Club.

I think of prohibition and the Chicago mob and the payola, which was not just in Chicago and not just during prohibition. Tammany Hall. Serpico.

What evidence is there that should make me think it is different now? They hide it better? More sophisticated? More global.

I spoke to a TDS afflicted friend of mine, known him since 10th grade. I flat asked him recently to name one good thing about Trump. He couldn’t. I had to prompt him - did he start any wars? He agreed, that was a good thing. To which I said “not only not start, but was incredibly restrained, targeted and proportional in response to hostilities, and tried to wind them down against the strong wishes of most of the swamp”.

I mean, the very first thing they did after he got elected was take out his top intelligence adviser (Flynn). They desperately did not want him to succeed at anything. Collusion BS was before all that, but then used incessantly for years after to stymie his every effort.

"Perhaps some Freepers can fill me in on these kind of historic struggles within the GOP and what happens next?"

I always forget that you are a 2019 because you seem like you've been here a hella lot longer.

Trump destroyed the Uniparty system -- the 4th and 5th Columns are crumbling -- and now has half the nation standing firm against it.

That offers no succor to the neo-cons who are now on the outside, in the cold, because they have been found out. But the MSM is happy to lend them the ink to their shitty beefs.

What is happening now in the very short term, is that the Xiden Admin promised every NeverTrumper temporary free reign to attempt to drive out MAGA/economic nationalism, but only guaranteed before HeelsUp. Meaning Liz won't have her finances examined, or Mitt go to jail as he should, etc, but only until Belinda Bluegums takes over from Resident Xiden.

It's not working out as they expected, on either side. President Imposter has no core support, not even an inch deep nor a mile wide; and the Trump purge has completely failed.

We are headed for, in the next 2-3 years, the most substantial disruption to the American way of life since WW2. In fact, I believe my suggestion of an "Indy Mac" letter to unwind the commercial real estate mortgage market should be delegated to Sen. Paul, was in response to a post you made this week.

Did you not regard COVID as merely the opening salvo of the "Great Reset", rather than something to merely "survive" in the moment? I've read your posts -- you are smarter than that.

No, we can’t give up on such a good thing as the Uniparty (R). On 1/7 the Uniparty (R)’s aggressively active complicity in the coup was laid bare for everyone to see. The DC GOP and numerous GOP state houses actively participated in the coup or by inaction allowed it to succeed. Your GOP is directly responsible for the destruction of the constitution and the end to honest elections. You are telling me the current GOP is an honest real alternative to the democrats in DC? Name 10 DC GOP politicians and/or federal bureaucrats who vocally defend MAGA, our culture and constitution. You can’t, they aren’t there. Trump had you, me and 80 million other MAGA patriots who would have followed him to a real second party. Working “within the GOP” has cost us everything. Like Trump used to say, “What the hell do you have to lose” by leaving your current corrupt, incompetent party? The GOP is the heart and soul of the swamp. I was a card carrying GOP globalist stooge for five decades, no more for me.

The old guard is acting this way because we’re not falling in line. John McCain called us Wacko Birds for the same reason.

Great post

I just read an article about Trump’s appearance on a Candice Owens radio show.

He said he watched “with pleasure” as Romney was booed off stage the other day.

“People get it, you know they get it. They know phonies and they know people we affectionately call people RINOs,” Trump said, referring to “Republicans in name only.”

“But they know phony people.”

I think Trump has done a wonderful service is exposing these shills and I sincerely hope he takes an active role to defeat them!

I think the dawn of 24-hour cable news shows and the internet is where it all started. Before that, in the 80s when I was busy having and raising kids, we got our news from the newspaper and the network news, and we trusted it. We also “agreed to disagree” with our family & friends when it came to politics.

One of the things you should keep in mind is that a lot of the “base” you are talking about aren’t Republicans at all. Trump tapped a lot of disenchanted Democrats and independents when he arrived on the national political scene, and I’m sure these establishment Republicans resent the hell out of him — and them — for it.

That’s funny because Jeb! defeated Jeb! He couldn’t get 3% anywhere. It’s like the class dork running for class president and blaming his abject loss on the football team captain.
