I was in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan. They put curtains up in the mess hall so Muslims would not get upset or tempted to eat while us evil infidels ate. Many Muslims slept all day then partied all night. No alcohol, just a lot of food and socializing. The Muslims then went home before dawn and slept all day, it was pretty rough, hahaha

In the US, much of the religious behavior during Ramadan is for show. Like Baptists not drinking if another Baptist is around. They will eat if no one else is around.

Many people who are Muslim are Sufi or agnostic and do not follow all the tenets of Islam. I was around a group of them during Ramadan and about 60-70 percent were drinking and eating while the rest where being faithful. I asked their team lead/ my terp about it and he said this was common during Ramadan and then I asked about the religious aspect of daytime eating. He said they are going to hell. Not much for me to say after that.

Yes, I dated a Muslim man for 5 years. He was adapted to our culture and there were no problems. His mother was Coptic Christian but was raised Muslim since his father was. I attended church with his Mother and even there the men and women were separated. Didn’t understand the service as much of it was in Arabic

Waist of time watching this. I know several Muslims that occasionally drink beer.....some don’t pray on Fridays!

Why can't they be like this gentleman?

Near where I grew up there's a large Orthodox community and many Caribbean people in Spring Valley, NY. It's not unusual to see a Carribean grocery selling pork pies next door to a kosher deli, yet for the most part they all get along just fine.

>> its not a Biblical fast <<

Well, given that follow the Quran and not the Bible since they are a non-Christian religion, duh. Hindu and Buddhist eating habits aren't biblical, either.

People pushing their religion- indeed expecting that *ANYONE* else behave according to the dictates of *THEIR* religion need their ass kicked.

Faith is a private affair, anyone using what they believe to be a revealed belief system to prohibit or require me to do anything need to be terminated.

So you believe Christians should be made to hide in the United States?

If a woman is pregnant, or someone is traveling, or other reasons (e.g. sick, having your period, elderly, caregivers) the fast is not required.

so the one trying to shame them is stricter than the prophet. Second, most Ramen noodles here in SE Asia are halal: much of the food is labeled as such, in the same way that many foods in the USA are labeled as Kosher.

Finally, there are various strains of Islam: Not all are fundamentalist as it is in Saudi.

Traveling? So, for nomads, they never have to fast?

I am not sure about nomads, but when traveling on a long flight with my granddaughter and her best friend from college who was a pious Muslim from Pakistan, she was eating meals, and when I questioned her, she said it was because she was traveling.

and some of our Muslim ER doctors in the states would not eat, but others did eat, pointing out that caring for the sick was more important than fasting.

Much of Islam, like much of Christianity, is quite lose on the small points of the law for ordinary folks: Until you get a religious revival, and you get inquisitions and worse for those who bend the rules.

One of the problems that I have with the Islamic Calendar is that it isn’t bound by the Solar calendar. Other Lunar Calendars, such as the Hebrew and Native American, put in an extra month so that holidays always happen in the same season, like Passover near the beginning of Spring. Don’t Muslims have agriculture?
