Yep. My father worked for McDonnell Douglas doing final inspection before the airplanes flew. He had to make sure the intakes were clear of tools, etc., and there was nothing around that could get sucked in.

You're right, of course - Debris causes Damage.
I worked with a guy whose favorite saying was something to do with FOD - he used it frequently. I finally asked what he was talking about and he said it was from his Air Force days.
