In the early ‘80s, I was a county officer in Virginia-NEA for most of my first seven years of teaching. Attended pretty much all of the conferences and conventions. In Dade County, FL, in order to receive health care benefits, I was a member of AFT. After staying home with our sons and then returning to teaching after our daughter entered first grade, I joined CEAI (Christian Educators Association International), vowing never again to compromise my beliefs for a ‘union’ organization.

All that to say: It’s been many years that the feds have forced their agenda. In fact, I was in college when Jimmy Carter signed the legislative act to create the cabinet-level US Department of Education. IMHO, that was when education began the downward free-fall.

I miss having parents who are really parents, who train their children to be civilized, and hold their children to account. Students changed greatly during the course of my career because parents changed.
