Look at Steve Howe in the picture. He was a geeky as a kid, and geeky as adult, although one of my favorite guitarists. Check him out as part of Anderson, Buford, Wakeman and Howe in Mountain View (1989) and in Westbury, NY (2018)

Well crafted almost commercial side of Yes. Many other great ones from this band including close to the edge and gates of delirium.

That was indeed a great album. One of my other favorites by Yes has to be “I’ve seen all good people”
That song introduced me to the sounds of a recorder, a certain type of flute. I enjoyed the lilting, weightless rhythms. Perhaps similar to music of the Middle Ages.

I saw them perhaps a year before Chris Squire died. Great show. Howe and Squire both still had it. They played Fragile and Close to the Edge straight thru, if memory serves.

Squire was an amazing Bassist, right up there with The Who’s Entwistle. Saw Yes at Anaheim Stadium circa 1978/79? impressive.

I was in High School and I listened to that song many many times, still like it today.

If you’re new to the band, Fragile is a good starting point for classic-era Yes. Or 90125 if you want selling-a-bunch-of-records-era Yes. :)

But more often than not, if I’m in the mood for some Yes I cue up Close To The Edge.

I think I’ve seen Yes (in its many incarnations) more times than I’ve seen any other band.

1973 I didn’t know the band Yes. I’d hear a commercial on the radio advertising their coming concert.

“You’ve heard their hit song, their intricate rock precision and they are coming to the sportatorium this Friday night and we can’t wait, yes. get your tickets... “

What? Who the heck is playing?

Did they rip off ELP’s intro to “From the Beginning,” or was it the other way around?

Yes was the first rock concert I ever attended. Saw them at the old Tampa Stadium in January ‘74. Turned out to be the coldest night of the year with temperatures in the 30s and a steady breeze blowing. I arrived very early, took a seat high in the stands and didn’t move for over 5 hours. When I did get up to leave I realized that hypothermia was setting in and I hardly had any control of my limbs. Anyone who saw me stumbling down the steps must have thought I was drunk or stoned.

I just have to jump in here and put in mega-kudos to Tales From Topagraphic Oceans.

If you’ve listened to four songs in the last 90 minutes you must be into ProgRock !

Saw them in Wichita Kansas in 73.
Roundabout, Starship Trooper, but the stand out is You and I.

One of the worst bands ever. I used to automatically tune in another station whenever one of their songs came on. Not a problem today, as my musical tastes evolved and their songs are not played on the stations I listen to today.
