Just a one-time cost to buy the hardware. I think we paid $27 for our Roku (we have two). There are no costs after that. There are several free apps that come with it — Tubi, XUMO, Filmrise Mysteries, Pluto, Peacock (I think it’s connected to NBC), and a bunch of others we haven’t paid much attention to.
The remote that came with the Roku sucks (no volume control, no TV power on/off), so you have to us your TV’s remote. We got a couple excellent remotes on Amazon for about $10 and they’re great. There’s a great search feature so if you’re looking for something specific, it’ll show you all the apps where it can be found. Some will be on the free apps, and some will be on pay apps; you can choose.
This morning on Tubi there was a very good documentary on JFK, his tom-catting, the honeypots he was in bed with (literally) — one from a commie country, one from China.
