UC system officially drops SAT, ACT scores from use in admissions and scholarships

Activists have long argued that standardized tests put minority and low-income students at a disadvantage. Critics say test questions often contain inherent bias that more privileged children are better equipped to answer. They also say wealthier students typically take expensive prep courses that help boost their scores, which many students can’t afford.

Kids these days must purposefully be dumber than a box of rocks.

I’m a product of the public school system, was definitely poor (single parent household on disability), and never had a prep course or tutor to help me on the ACT. In fact, I didn’t even *study* for it, just took it. I scored above 95% on everything but math; that was 50% because I couldn’t do algebra & geometry and guessed at the answers. My overall was 28 out of a possible 36.

They don’t have my sympathy.
