Went through parachuting class in the military (compulsory to draw flight pay) but never did it for real although we were encouraged to do so. I wasn't the only one who deemed lessons on the ground good enough - though I did have to rappel off a tall wall. That was quite enough jumping from high up for me.
Parachuting is something I'd never do voluntarily.
Now if the plane I was on was going down, I guess I'd have to strap one on and hope for the best.

When I was a kid I thought they had enough parachutes on all passenger flights.

A man I knew was a Navy pilot. He was a Captain and flew sub chasers. He told me he had a fire onboard once. The crew bailed out, then he jumped last. He said if it ever happened again “ He would ride that burning SOB all the way to the ground.”

Went through parachuting class in the military... I did as well, and like you, found no interest whatsoever in doing it for a hobby.
