A higher percentage of First Class men survived than Third Class children. For all the noble anecdotes, wealth was the largest determinant of who survived and who didn’t. Overall, 62% of First Class passengers, 43% of Second Class, and 25% of Third Class passengers survived.

I think the Macy’s stayed in their cabin and went down with the ship; several others did the same. But yeah, I bet Hollyweird skewed some things.

John Jacob Astor was the richest passenger aboard the Titanic and one of the richest men in the world. He didn't survive.
