I suppose you are right. I was 18 when JFK was elected and in fact being non political then I voted for him. I knew nothing of his past, family or policies but just thought he was cool because he was so much younger than the old fogies who usually run.

I was just 21 and in the UK (USAF) when he was assassinated and when I heard the news my first thought was “Oh shit now I’ll never get back home in January”. January 14th was my date of rotation back to the ZI and I was a rabid short termer just dying to go back home to the land of the “Big BX”.

The 26th amendment to allow 18 year olds to vote was passed in 1971. How did you manage to vote for JFK at age 18 in 1960?
