“Opioid pain killer addiction?”
If he did have an opioid addiction, it is likely from illicit drugs, not prescription opioids. Prescription drugs are not responsible for the opioid OD rates. Addiction is very low with prescription opioids
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/add.15487
“Among youth filling an initial opioid prescription, median age was 18 years (IQR, 16‐21) and 56.1% were female. During the subsequent 12 months, 10,405 (0.3%) youth experienced an opioid‐related complication.”

“In every state examined, there was no consistent relationship between the amount of prescription opioids delivered and total injury-related mortality or any subgroups, suggesting that there is not a direct association between prescription opioids and injury-related mortality.”
Respectfully,
I know quite a few people who started with prescription pain killer (opioids) and got addicted.
A few who ended up killing themselves by going into the “coffin corner”.
Where I used to work, it was so common we had the opioid antidote in our first aid kits. Of the three that I witnessed being used, two started with prescriptions and ended up addicted. One was a newer hire.

As I read through the comments it struck me that the NFL needs to be cancelled. It is, after all, a white man's sport, created by white men, for white men. Basically, NFL=white supremacy. And upon further reflection, that applies to the NBA, the NHL and MLB. Oh, and golf, too. Hmmmm....swimming, diving....etc.
The statistics do not back your personal experience that prescription opioids are an important driver of addiction and OD deaths.
If you’re going to make an argument on this issue, you really need to do some research. Your personal experience really cannot be verified or quantified as a professional study and you come off making an emotional argument so typical of leftist.
Did you actually look at those articles that I posted?
Philip was a student of mine at RHHS,and played HS football with my son.
After he blew his ankle out his rookie year he began to be very resentful and angry person.
Lately I’ve been told he was having a drug problem.
There was a story a few decades ago about a young man who committed suicide on the mound of the USC (Southern Cal) baseball diamond. He left a note. It was remembered that the man was a former top prospect who was signed by the Trojans and promoted as “the next Tom Seaver” until he blew out his arm and it was never right after this. The guy was discarded and he apparently blamed the university for ruining his pending superstar career. He simply couldn’t move on with life. Sometimes, it does take years before this all spills over to a violent act.
Yes.
However there are plenty others that argue the opposite.
Enough that Perdue pharma got shut down.
Now, I suspect you or someone you know are using them to treat pain. BE VERY CAREFUL.
The more they are used, the higher the dose needed to be effective. At some point it is enough to kil.
its not football injury....its just evil and hate....
think of all the miners, lumber men, military, steel workers, etc that put up with stress and knock on the heads all the time....they don't go killing off the neighborhood.
“And let us not be guilty of maudlin sympathy for the criminal ,who roaming the streets with a switchblade and illegal firearms seeking a helpless prey, suddenly becomes upon apprehension, a poor, underprivileged person who counts upon the compassion of our society and the laxness and weakness of too many courts to forgive his offense.”-

Reverse the races of killer and victims, and you just might detect racism.
