This should be illegal.
If United cannot foresee that the one thing people will prefer, regardless of wokeness, is the most elite experienced qualified personel flying them 35000 feet above the earth, they deserve everything thats coming their way . Get woke - go broke.
LOL - the Dr. Lexus scene from Idiocracy was EXACTLY what I thought of when I saw the story!!
Good stuff!
So selection not by skill, but by looks. Bet your life on another airline...
There will be a Democrat president that writes an executive order to make sure that does not happen. Advancement of minorities is more important than safety.
Sorry, but the FAA is another woke government bureaucracy headed by a Biden appointee.
The FAA itself played this game with air traffic controllers which resulted in numerous incidents and some accidents because of incompetent affirmative action hires.
And the Navy but incompetent females who were having a chick fight and collided with a 10000 foot supertanker.
And then there’s the affirmative action Vice President who is about to become President.
Clapping. Now.
As if I needed yet another reason not to fly.
If they start to lower the standards, you’ll see unqualified crews landing at Cat III airports only. That will set up a similar scenario like the incident in San Francisco where the ILS went down and the crew was unable to hand-fly the aircraft.
The result? A landing short of the threshold into the approach lights. Flight directors will become the primary way commercial aircraft are operated.
Sorry, “Navy had” and 1000 ft ship
I forgot to ask you when I responder to your post, “How is it going Governor?”
Years back many AL Pilots were prior military; training ,training and train some-more.
Many experienced some serious mishaps and some combat. These are the people I want in the left seat, not some X Burnside Ott type flunky
Affirmative Action gave us cops and fire fighters that didnt meet standards so they lowered the standards and that is where we are.
Liberals destroy everything they touch
You can predict the scenario here.
Along about three years in the future...within a six-month period, three crashes occur. FAA spends six months investigating them....while another three occur in the next period.
They come to find out that in the first three instances...severe weather played some part, but marginal piloting skill made up the rest, with mathematical skills lacking in one of the cases. All six will lead back to United operations and this episode.
Now, I will state this news item from around six years ago in Frankfurt, Germany. Chinese male pilot was late on arriving at the airport, and had never landed in Frankfurt in his life. Messed up on the approach and was ‘waved-off’ for a second approach. Screwed up on second approach. He then amends the situation...to land at the Koln Airport (80 miles away). He had landed there dozens of times and felt ‘safe’ on that runway (less hectic). No one ever said what happened to the guy after that.
A trans pilot would give new meaning to “cockpit”
I think that is only true as far as the standards go. And they may not actually change the standards per se.
If someone makes a mistake (and all humans make mistakes, it is what we do) then, depending on the severity, you might get a warning, or you might lose your job.
Some mistakes are so egregious there isn't much wiggle room and it is a fireable offense.
Others, you may get a warning, a black mark on your record. More than one might get you tossed out.
It has been my experience that, even if the standards on paper are not lowered to accommodate "diversity" in order to foster greater "inclusion and acceptance" of various "protected classes", the leeway given becomes much wider.
There was a famous book some time back, widely read in the Naval Aviation community called "Bogeys and Bandits: The Making of A Fighter Pilot" in which the first class of female F-18 pilot trainees were discussed as part of the book.
Not only were standards lowered in the way I just mentioned (a male pilot would have been tossed out of the program with a single infraction, but at least one of the female trainees was given multiple chances to make that same crucial mistake) but at least one female pilot regularly used her protected status as a female to threaten instructors who didn't want to give her a passing grade.
To be fair, there were also women in that fighter pilot training program who were trying to meet the standards and be fairly judged, which is the problem with crap like "Affirmative Action" because even the competent people who are beneficiaries will always be under the cloud of that affirmative action, and will always have difficulty being judged on their own merits.
Yep, I think many people will just fly on another airline. I know I will.
I was an undergrad pilot training IP in the days when the AF first admitted women. Some were very good, others were not. And yes, there was pressure to pass some of the not good ones in order to meet quotas. I had the pleasure of being good friends with one of the first women USAF pilots, and she was very angry that some unqualified women got through the system. The good ones were good, and the bad ones were - well Dorkbama level quota passes. All in all, roughly one in three pilot trainees can not hack it - no matter the race or sex.
But yes, we should worry about the liberal left’s propensity to always lower standards. And remember, the double standard is ALWAYS rule one when one is a leftist. And everything that is touched by a leftist turns to Obamastuff.
Yep.......political correctness in the government got her killed.
...." An Accuracy in Media article quotes CDR Tom Sobiek, commanding officer of Fighter Squadron VF-124, as saying of the four female pilots in his squadron, "The women are going to graduate regardless of how they performed" and "the Navy was in a race with the Air Force to get the first female fighter pilot". It quotes Sobiek denying making any such statement. "That is a flat [ass] lie," he said. "And whoever told you that, if they were under oath, should be taken to task."[11] Several of the instructors, however, testified to the contrary. During a subsequent interview with Mike Wallace of CBS "60 Minutes," Sobiek finally admitted that he had made statements that may have conveyed the impression that the women would not be allowed to fail. He added that some female pilots were advanced in combat aviation ahead of many men who were kept waiting or forced to resign."
Sadly, so did Boeing. They stated they wanted 20% of all hires to be black.
