“Over 167 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through April 5, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 2,794 reports of death (0.00167%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine.”

I'm not sure what to make of the data you found. I understand VAERS is updated every Friday (first line of red text below) and haven't seen that total yet. That said, I have seen some evidence that data is missing from VAERS and maybe your source is better (searching VAERS differently?). I just search VAERS below and here's the data I found:
