I think people have it all wrong on the 2nd amendment, it does not grant a rant it removes the authority of the federal government to control the right to bear arms.

Still doesn’t change the intent.

Vote to restrict is acceptable - ONLY after Rep/Senator has willingly forfeited their 2nd Amendment rights.

You’re close. The people via their states never authorized their new government to restrict gun ownership (or religious worship, press, speech . . .) in the first place, so why deny in the 2A that which wasn’t granted?

The VA ratification convention really rattled James Madison, and when ratification barely squeaked by, he promised to do what he could to add a bill of rights.

In the end, Madison’s initial opposition was spot-on. He feared that in time the courts wouldn’t recognize rights outside those itemized.

He was right. Scotus smacks down new political rights initiated by the states, while at the same time a bare majority of five lawyers have no problem forcing so-called rights on a defenseless society.
