Magnitude 9.6? In theory a person can see down to the 6th magnitude with the naked eye. If you live in a city you are lucky if you can see 3rd and 4th magnitude stars. I think 5 magnitudes represents 100 times difference in brightness, so a magnitude 9.6 star would be 1/100th as bright as a 5.6 magnitude star. So you probably need a small telescope and a clear sky away from any cities to see this nova. But maybe it will get much brighter.

The Iceman had not been born yet when this nova exploded.
