The bodies of two hikers from Massachusetts have been recovered at a Maine mountain, according to officials who believe the pair fell about 100 feet.
The bodies of a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Rutland, were recovered Saturday by National Park Service rangers working with volunteers from Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue and a helicopter from the Maine Forest Service, according to the National Park Service.
Officials believe the two fell along ice-covered cliff bands on Dorr Mountain.

Trump’s fault . . . see what he did to Sleepy Joe?

Better half and I hiked Katahdins knife edged in winter....
Have to be very very careful.
Mount Desert Island...Acadia National Park, on the Maine coast.
There are mountains in Maine?
Well, I declare!
You my FRiend have some stones. I’ve hiked Dorr Mountain. It’s only something like 1300-1400 feet but quite steep. Beautiful though.
Crampons and ice axes in use?
Thanks for the link.
Beautiful looking country.
Like the Grand Canyon, no “safety” railings.
Approach at your own risk.
A rare situation in our world today....
Wow. Is there a link to the full trail trajectory somewhere?
Forget that. Were they wearing masks?
I did just look it up on Alltrails.com is it the Dorr Mountain Ladder Trail?
That is so sad! RIP!
Ice is so treacherous! We had ice this winter, unusual for us here, and it was so darn slippery to walk on our driveway, we didn’t get the car out until the roads were clear again.
Horrible! One imagines how it happened: probably one trying to rescue the other ... knowing better, but how does a person just not try?
As a Mainer, your comment is pretty insulting.
Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, at 1,530 feet (466 meters), is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the United States from October 7 through March 6. It is one of over 20 mountains on Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine that were pushed up by earth’s tectonic and volcanic forces millions of years ago. Were it not for the once enormous glaciers that sheared off their tops, they would be even higher than what we see today. You can easily see the results of this on a smaller scale by viewing the slopes on the Porcupine Islands in the distance. The North side is on the left and the steeper slope, or the down side, is on the right east side. The glaciers crept across the land here from the left to the right (in a southerly direction) and stretched out to sea as far as 400 miles (644 kilometers)!
Thanks for the information.
Great summary. Mt. Battie above Camden is great place to see Penobscot Bay, or portions of it.
Yes, there are mountains in Maine. Katahdin would be the biggest. A more grueling 1-day round trip you’ll likely not find on the east coast.
