Yes, there are mountains in Maine. Katahdin would be the biggest. A more grueling 1-day round trip you’ll likely not find on the east coast.
I day-hiked up Mt. Katahdin from its base in Baxter SP at age 42 when I was still in fairly good condition. Kicked my butt big time. Wouldn’t trade the memories for anything.
