Good point, but I'd caution you about something. When you say "It's not economical to do X," keep in mind that this often changes over time.
At one time it wasn't economical to drive across the U.S. because you needed to bring your own gasoline or diesel fuel with you. That sure changed very quickly, didn't it!

Much easier for every general store to stock a few cans of Shell Motor Spirit than to build (rebuild/augment in this case) an entire electrical generation and distribution network.
