Ditching Amazon Prime and looking for alternative websites to purchase things. For example, I now get most of my clothing directly from LL Bean.
What is a good place to buy books online? I still buy a lot of books. An obvious choice is Barnes & Noble but looking to see if there are any other book-buying websites I should be aware of.
Amazon never stocked all of those books that they started out listing.
They took the Books In Print catalog and gave shoppers easy acccess to it. IF they had something in stock they ship it right out, otherwise they would order it for you. Just as any bookstore would do for customers in the 1990s (look it up in Books In Print and they would order it).
Mr Monopoly marches on.
These buyouts should never have been granted.
Hamilton is an old school remainder dealer. They had a great mail order catalog in the pre internet days. I remember buying the WW2 ace pilot Joe Foss’ autobiography there for $3 new. Happy days.
And Amazon’s refusal to stock conservative titles now shows how they are denying legal material access to the marketplace.
They are flexing their muscle as a monopoly in distribution to block certain materials for ideological reasons.
Recall in the 1990s and 2000s when Amazon ducked criticism about seling books on incest etc claiming that they don’t publish them blah blah blah.
Almostvalways eBay very cheap especially non new technocal book
I have purchased many books from Hamiltons.
Wonderful stuff. Greatly expanded my horizons.
Great replies everybody. I bookmarked and will be checking some of these out later on.
No need to feed the beasts, you can find torrents for every book imaginable. Download, read, then only purchase the ones from authors with the right mindset. A couple good repositories are Library Genesis or Z Library.
I buy a lot of used fiction on Abesbooks.com.

Amazon often has higher prices because they are almost always the first result on google.com when an author/title is searched on google. Many times I’ve seen a book priced at $40 on amazon be $20 or so on Abe.com due to less demand on abe.
Books about coffee tables, astonishing tales of the sea, and more!
You can check out Alibris.com, or Better World Books (they sell on Amazon), or Books-A-Million.
Amazon alternatives bump.
Bookbub but it is tied to amazon.
I still send in an order from their paper catalog(s) once or twice a year. On a side note, one of my brothers has an autographed copy of Black Sheep One, which he bought from Pappy Boyington at an air show.
They have a good selection of music and movies, too.
Christianbook.com
I have a comprehensive set of media bookmarks for searching and purchasing items.
I have regularly updated these sources since I began this website about 15 years ago.
