VANITY: You could go back in time and see one band live at their peak. Who do you choose?

Yes, this is a vanity, because in these times we all need a break, and thats why I come here sometimes. So...who do you choose?

BOSTON

I saw them at the Texxas Jam in ‘87 with Tesla, Poison, Whitesnake, and Aeorsmith.

The Singer Brad Delp killed himself in 2007.

Tom Scholz is an engineer who builds his own gear. The stage looked like the bridge of the starship Enterprise.

I did not misspell Texas. That is how it was.

Now that we get to this part - If we have to go back to bands, the ones I saw at their peak, repeatedly, were the Neville Brothers and Brooklyn Bridge. I wouldn’t miss them for anything.

Artists I would haVE LOVED TO have seen - TOMPALL AND tHE gLASER bROTHERS -the most beautiful harmony ever. Jimmy Reed, BILLY sTEWART, ARTHHUR aLEXANDER - FORGIVE ME, i’M TYPING IN THE DARK. As far as those still living I would love to see - Ray Stevens at his new CabaRay, ans Frank Ifield, who haS ONE OF THE GREATEST VOICES i’VE EVER HEARD. bUT HE IS NOW PAST 80, AND i KNOW HE’S NOT COMING OVER HERE.

Since most people have no problem posting individual acts, then I will go ahead and mention mine: As a lifelong music lover, I know there are two artists I am poorer for never having seen. Patsy Cline and Otis Redding, But both of them died before I was old enough to go out and hear live music. Still, they are the gold standard fir aknist everybody else.

I’ve seen most all of the rock bands mentioned here, some multiple times, like Rush 6, Queen 4, Petty 3, Eagles 2, Journey, Styx, Mellenhead 5, Allmans, Ted Nugent, Damn Yankees, ZZ, Deep Purple, Rainbow w/Dio, Sabbath, Ozzy w/R Rhoads, Sabbath w/Dio, J. Geils (best damn party band in the land), REO (yuck), Willie Nelson, Wayne Newton, Osmond Brothers 3 times in 69,70 (thanks Sis), Floyd, Zeppelin in ‘77, Van Halen w/Dave, Sammy solo, Steve Perry solo, Rod Stewart 5, Neil Young, C,S &N, Foghat, BOC, Starz, Bob Seger 4, Kiss 2, Motley Crew, Motörhead, AC/DC, YES 5, Donavan, Doobie Bros, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Black Oak Arkansas, Aerosmith 3, Alice Cooper 4, Kansas 4, Dennis Deyoung, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Steve Miller 2, Robert Plant solo 2, Billy Squire, Heart, The Who, Paul McCartney, Ringo All Star, Ian Hunter, Peter Frampton, and I’ll think of a few more, but the one original band I haven’t seen and would like to see, which hasn’t been mentioned is Three Dog Night. What a great band they were and not just the 3 singers. Watch their live with Nashville orchestra show from a number of years ago, even without Chuck Negron they did an excellent job and the original band is aces.

Sorry for long list..(“

I spent all of 1968 in Vietnam so I missed her and Jimi and more. In the 1970’s I was at a bookstore and saw a book for $1. It was, “Going Down With Janis”. Ha. First sentence was, “I was stoned out of my mind on smack and the woman with her head between my legs was Janis Joplin.” It was written by a woman in SF. Great read about her, warts and all.

I did see Cheap Trick - Budokan Tour at Bucknell when I was 15. Crazy times. Right before they hit it big.

“I like Cajun/Zydeco music too.”

I have just about everything that Beau Jocque did. He passed way to young. I don’t think he ever fully recovered from falling off the roof while doing a roofing job.

There was a band back in the mid to late 90s called “Stupid Vanities.” The lead singer was named “Moderator.” His thing was to stomp out vanity posts on a website called “Free Republic.” I pine for those days.

Right, there is a YouTube video interview of Chester telling the story on how that went down. He was suppose to drive a school bus route for the first time on a Monday morning but got the call to be in NY (?) on Sunday. Couldn’t leave a message for the bus company because they didn’t have an answering machine. Chester is all right.

If it was just one song, this might be the ticket...Muscle Shoals. Duane played from the bathroom. Because Boz thought it sounded better. And they were out of space.

Boz/Duane - Loan Me A Dime

I liked “Never Been Any Reason”.

I did not know John Schlitt was also the singer of Petra back in the day until recently.

I tell you what. Lemmy makes you cry when he sings the title track to “1916”, to me probably the greatest song ever written about that stupid war.

#47. Eat your heart out re Earth Wind and Fire. My wife and I saw them about 1974 or 75 in DC’s “Summer in the Park” program (i.e. street corner singing sites, 15th & Constitution NW) before they became national hits.

We both said that they were great and were going to be big. So glad that we got to see the in-the-raw EW&F. - “September Song”.
