Yes, this is a vanity, because in these times we all need a break, and thats why I come here sometimes. So...who do you choose?
Saw live: “Bennie Goodman” “Artie Shaw”
I've seen the Stones, Elton John, Billy Joel, ELP, lots of other great performers.
Up until 18 months ago, I would have to say the best concert I ever attended was Spyrogyra in El Paso. Due to a change in venue, my tickets were upgraded from front row in the balcony to front row. My girlfriend hated it, but she still married me.
The best concert I ever attended was Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas, September 2019. The Saturday show started at 4 PM, didn't end until after midnight. Clapton was fantastic, as were all the performers. My most enduring memory is Los Lobos playing "Made to Break Your Heart", with Clapton performing the guitar solo.
So, for the purposes of this discussion, I would have loved to see Derek and the Dominos, with all of them sober and in good health. Second choice would be Clapton, from the mid-80s. Whenever I need a boost, I play the live version of "She's Gone".
yes, good times,
I like the idea — both from Minneapolis, both overlooked by the big labels.
Open the show w/ some proto-metal Crow, a’la Deep Purple, then turn Enrico Rosenbaum and the boys loose to play a unique dazzling blend of rock, jazz, folk, new age and outlaw/surreal/romantic poetry. I play their music at least once a week in the car, or at suppertime.
👍👍
Rolling Stones 1964
I would go see Billy Joel just to watch Liberty DeVitto.
Saw Clapton in 1975 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center - like magic. I saw Ian Anderson a couple of years ago. Would loved to have seen him in his prime. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the guy can play a flute.
Renaissance with Annie Haslam
Moody Blues
ELO
The Beach Boys
10cc
Fleetwood Mac
Supertramp
Blondie
Mary Hopkin
Great choice. The Commander and the Airmen were awesome. Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park NYC. I think it was something like a buck and a half up top and three dollars on the floor. And you could bring your own cooler in. Good times. Rock that Boogie.
A friend caught them in CT about 10 years ago at Mohegan Sun
I saw the Temptations at Kleinhans and Ray Charles (with Billy Preston) at Melody Fair.
Thoroughly loved both. It was while I was going to grad school at UB. Lived on in-law’ farm in Niagara Co.
I saw them with Bon in ‘78 when I was 16....I wasn’t even a fan. I only went to see opening act, Cheap Trick. I didn’t become an AC/DC fan until I turned 50....midlife crisis and all that! I can’t get into the Brian stuff as much. Let There Be Rock is my favorite.
Never saw Supertramp, one of my favorites.
Roger Hodgson is a criminally underrated guitarist. He didn’t do a lot of solos, but every one he did was fantastic.
Saw REO in late 75 or early 76. They were the opening act for Tower of Power. They had just released “You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can’t Tuna Fish.”
