VANITY: You could go back in time and see one band live at their peak. Who do you choose?

Yes, this is a vanity, because in these times we all need a break, and thats why I come here sometimes. So...who do you choose?

I would have liked to hear Beethoven play piano before his hearing went. I would have liked to hear him play his chamber music, especially to hear how he handled certain piano passages in the “Kreutzer” Violin Sonata (Op. 47) and the A Major Cello Sonata (Op. 69).

I went to an Ozzfest in Dallas, I think it was the first one he played with Black Sabbath.
Yes, the good old days!

I've seen a lot of bands in their peak. So my list would include those I never saw live. I might say The Beatles but it would depend on the venue, the stadiums had awful sound, perhaps the Hollywood Bowl.

Also, The Who, just missed them in August 2 1971 in Saratoga; setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-who/1971/saratoga-performing-arts-center-saratoga-springs-ny-53d66799.html

They had a huge crowd.

Never saw The Eagles in their prime. That would have been a great show.

Never saw Zeppelin in their prime.

Lastly, missed seeing Bob Marley at The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie NY, that would have been awesome.

I saw Stevie Ray before he was popular in a cafeteria in Midland. He came up to me on break and asked me if I had any coke or where he could get some.
Great talent we lost too soon.

That’s how my older brother would get into shows and events. Volunteering LOL. Then they would quit when the actual show is underway. I did the same thing when Lollapalooza was in town, and “volunteered” at the events area just to get the passes. Back in the last 90’s, it was close to $50 a ticket.

The vivid one I remember was rage Against the Machine. These anti-capitalist, leftist, commie band was CHARGING $40 for their show. The Irony they were capitalist in charging money. So I “volunteered” for the one of the t-shirt guys and quit halfway. In a fair way, he didnt even pay me for helping him get the t-shirts to the stand so we’re good..

Genesis with Peter Gabriel on the “Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” tour.

I saw that show, in 1975 in Houston, at the tiny Sam Houston Coliseum. It was MIND-BLOWING. Just incredible. Never had seen anything like it.

I saw Genesis 4 more times after that. The last time was in the Olympic Stadium in Munich during the farewell tour.

All of them have been great. But, nothing at all like the energy and just incredible visuals of that first show. Of course, that was the only one where I may have toked a little. That MIGHT have something to do with it. ;-)

Remember the 92 Montreal riot with Guns N Roses and Metallica?

Well, they were supposed to go to Vancouver NEXT. My brother and I had tickets for that one, and still have the ticket to prove it. I also have the ticket for the 2002 GNR Vancouver show where the crowd AGAIN rioted at GM Place.

Good times..

Wings.

I'd love to meet Paul McCartney and tell him he was always my favorite member of Wings.

As an uncool person, I’m not into rock, so most of the artists listed here aren’t of interest to me. I did see some great suggestions when I saw that some of the big bands were listed, and I would very much have enjoyed experiencing them in person. But one look at my profile page and anyone can figure out whose live performances I ache to see. You’re the only one who has mentioned him so far. Respect, sir/ma’am.

Cains is still here but Hendix was at the old Assembly Center downtown. First Rock Concert I ever attended and the last one I ever attended straight.

Not far from the BOK.

I would also have LOVED to sit in on sessions of the Wrecking Crew. Not sure if that counts as a live “performance,” but I would have enjoyed watching the process of great music coming together to create a finished product.
