Having lived in Virginia most of his life, Larry Sabato can remember racially segregated schools and systematic efforts to stop Black people voting. Now 68, he observes a state that has diversified, embraced liberal values and shifted from symbol of the old south to symbol of the new.
“I have to admit, as a young man I would never have believed it was possible for Virginia to move in such a strong progressive direction,” said Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia. “I worked for candidates back then who were progressive. I used to joke, ‘If I work for you, you’re going to lose, you have to understand that’. And they always did.

In short, the reasons why the marxists won in Virginia are 1) that communism sounds more compassionate to the dumbed-down public than does freedom (somehow the inevitable gulags and genocide never come into the discussion), 2) the fascists want to win more than do the patriots and "we would never stoop to be like them"; as Jesse Kelly said, "I hope you find this comforting as they drag you off", and 3) the marxists control every vehicle for inculcating patriot citizenship and are perverting those enterprises into ones of support for submission to the central collective. And since the communists control every single public institution, we are between a rock and a hard place. If the feckless GOP manages somehow to win in Virginia's 2021 elections things may be stalled, but if not Virginafornia will become hard Stalinist almost immediately IMHO. Up to now they've only had their foot on the gas pedal. If they win again, it will be their boot heels on our throats.

The overall growth of federal govt over the last thirty years has been a factor as well.
Northern Virginia (aka NoVa) was once, with the exception of the cities of Alexandria and Arlington, a GOP stronghold. The legislative delegation from Fairfax County was strongly GOP. Even counties like Prince William were GOP.
But so many govt workers have flooded into NoVa that the whole region has become untenable for GOP candidates.
I think it is pretty easy.
The swamp votes Democrat because they support more money and power to swamp creatures.
And Virginia is basically a suburb of the core of the swamp.

The #1 reason VA has turned left is found in NOVA (Northern VA) where billions of $$$ from the Fed. Gov. enrichen gov employees and contractors who suck at the Federal teat. That cancer has grown from Alexandria and Arlington to Fairfax, then Loudon and other nearby counties down to Spottsyvania. The cancer has so spread that almost everyone within a 70 mile radius of DC works for or is dependent on the Fed. Gov.
Of course the left has always had Richmond, Charlottesville (a major commie center of the nation) and Roanoke. But numerically, those 3 cities are small.
If you cut off NOVA, Virginia would probably come out mostly red. Yes, formerly very conservative Henrico and Chesterfield counties have been slightly taken over by the Dark Side (Spanberger replacing Dave Brat), but that divide is very close.....and questionable......
As West VA is a state, NOVA should be cut off as Northern Virginia, leaving everything 50 miles south and west of DC to be in Virginia.
And I think we’d have our state back. Technically, our Commonwealth.

Virginia legitimately went Red. electoral FRAUD in Fairfax disenfranchised the Virginia state residents and turned the state Blue. Most Blue states are the consequence of FRAUD
The “image’ of the Left as an honest political wing in the USA has been driven by the media.
Since 1984 the control of media outlets has dropped from over 50 different organizations to just 6 today. The product of that consolidation is an ILLUSION of a “powerful Left wing”, a manufactured progressive consensus that has usurped political power it has no business with honestly. “honest” votes for Biden/the Left were 30-35 million. At most.
The problems originate in corrupted, local electoral precincts in deep Blue urban centers. These NEED to be cleaned. Nobody desires the dirty job. Part of “redistricting” projects, BTW, is to create regions and social environments permitting unfettered and unhindered electoral Fraud.
Think parts of cities where Republicans fear to tread. No bipartisan voting observers. If any Republican observers, or even voters show up,they are threatened. This is the beginning process of turning a Red state Purple.

What the left has done, ever since the 1984 Reagan-Mondale blowout - (and Mondale was a “moderate” Democrat!) - is to start electoral fraud programs in the largest states to turn them from Red-to-Purple-to Blue. They realized they had no future otherwise. It started in California and New York.
This last election cycle local Texans managed to turn it around at the precinct level-their RINO Governor not withstanding.
Extreme involvement in your local precincts and making sure paper balloting on ELECTION DAY, with hand counts and recounts in a transparent fashion and setting with open audit trails available to the general public, among other measures-are key.
Its dirty, tough work and initially confrontational with the existing perps. As the above article illustrates, it will be dangerous. But it beats the heck outta the alternatives -which are bearing down like a runaway freight train
The left has focused on corrupting our local electoral process. They focus on the deep urban centers. This process of corruption is very active presently in Georgia, using Atlanta as its base, the last 2 election cycles. This process is seditious.
We the People have no future otherwise. These people INTEND to “rule”
The benefits of this process created the UniParty which is WHY this has been allowed to mature.
No it’s for two reasons which are related. In 1970 Virginia had one in a hundred foreign born people. Today it’s one in ten. To a foreigner, Washington, Jefferson, Lee, VMI, etc mean nothing or worse, are held in contempt. And second, as the nation became more centrally planned and government exploded, the central planners working in government flocked to the areas around DC as a suburb. Hundreds of thousands of highly paid bureaucrats in every civilian, military, intelligence agency etc. And don’t forget the lobbyists.
It all added up to Virginia being flooded with people dedicated to expanding intrusive government and mining money from DC.
That is what happened to Virginia.
Georgia is the new Virginia, the exact same thing is happening there.
And in this last election Virginia was stolen. On election night Trump had an insurmountable lead. Only the hardest red counties were left to count. And not enough there to beat him. Then once again, magic happened late at night.
It sure looks that way. Georgia republicans are enthralled with China and DC.

....also agree...!!! moved to central Virginia in the early 1970s and lived there for over 43 years....saw my beloved Commonwealth change from the “carry me back to ol’ Virginny” to the uber-left wing Peoples Democratic Republic of Virginia swamp that it is today...very sad; I loved living in Virginia but now live in Texas...we are much better off down here than “back home”..... good luck, Virginia...you’re never going to go back to “the good old days” of conservative leadership....
Henrico has been trending left rapidly. Since 2008 it has voted solidly Democrat.

It’s a cesspool. Chesterfield is becoming one as well. Just like the NOVA cancer spread out of Fairfax, another cancer is spreading out of Richmond.
The only actual reason that Virginia is now “progressive” (i.e. neo-Marxist) is that it was essentially invaded and conquered. Actual Virginians still vote the same ways they did when VA was red. All the DC leaches, Yankees, and foreigners are in control along with the Richmond scum that was already there.
Everyone keeps making the same lizard people nonsense. It simply isn’t true in Virginia.
Virginia had a “red mirage” because conservatives voted in person and mostly on Election Day. You can verify this from the precinct data on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
Precincts that were never won by the GOP had unheard of swings all around the Commonwealth, but if you compare the raw votes to previous elections, it’s very easy to see what happened.
I’ll give you one example. Look at the Ivy Precinct in Albemarle
County.
Donald Trump narrowly “won” this precinct in 2020. 49-47. However if you look at the raw number of voters you will see that something is very, very wrong in that less than 1000 votes were recorded in the precinct.
In 2004 (the last time the GOP carried Virginia in a Presidential race) Kerry won this precinct with 53% of the vote and there were over 2300 votes in the precinct.
Do you really think that 1300 voters disappeared between 2004 and 2020?
In every single local you can see the central absentee (mail in vote totals) off the charts in 2020.
Republicans voted in person. Democrats voted by mail. The mail in votes are ALWAYS the last votes counted and posted. Legally the local election boards weren’t supposed to touch them until election night. Hence, you get the in person vote totals first, making it look like a massive landslide for President Trump and THEN the mail votes drop.
