One person is dead and another is hurt after a shooting Saturday night near George Floyd Square in south Minneapolis.
According to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 38th Street East and Chicago Avenue South. Police also received a report that two people had been shot and were being carried to the barricades at the edge of the "autonomous zone."
By the time officers got to the scene, the victims had already been taken to the hospital. Elder said the responding officers "were met with interference" upon arrival.
Police were told a victim had gone to Hennepin County Medical Center and later died, Elder said. The deceased victim is believed to be a man in his 30s.

Multiple listening devices to triangulate where the shot originated from.
Strategically placed microphones on poles that listen for gunfire and triangulate the area where the shots were fired.
A friend of mine helped develop some of the software for this system.
The argument didn’t have to be about the trial. Could have been about favorite skittles for all we know.
It’s a shame those in this autonomous zone may try to protect the killer from the police than seek justice for the dead man.

Local businesses in the zone have gone out of business because nobody can get to them.
Thanks. That’s what I thought it might be but the article said “ShotSpotter Activation” so I thought maybe it was manually operated. Of course makes sense, with technology, to detect weapons-fired sounds from other street noises and triangulate the location. Not sure what that means for everything else they may want to listen to...

Actually, it can tell the difference between gunfire and fireworks. It’s pretty slick.
