Today's "photo" is an illustration.

Pretty cool.
Hopefully the rover’s wheels won’t get caught in any gopher holes :-)

No trees to get caught in, fortunately.
The replacement cost would be steep through the NASA procurement system.

a toaster-sized helicopter with four long legs and two even-longer (1.2-meter) rotors, she is the first of her kind -- there has never been anything like her before. Ingenuity -- it's the life on Mars everyone's been looking for.
Life finds a way.
Percy + Ginny -- it's like Jacob and Rachel, a match made in heaven. Or space as it were.
A Sol *is* a Mars-Day, after all.

Surprised Mars has enough of an atmosphere for a helicopter to actually work

Why would they show us an artistic rendering instead of waiting to show us the real deal?
Stop showing computer renderings or models and let’s stick to observing the real thing.

Below is a link to a great video all about the physics of flight in the thin Mars atmosphere and the design of the Ingenuity helicopter. The Martian atmosphere at the surface is 1% of the density of the atmosphere on Earth. They spin the blades 2,900 to 3,300 rpm, five times faster than Earth helicopters. They are constrained by keeping tip Mach below 0.7. The major challenge was keeping the weight low -- it's less than 4 pounds! Each blade is 35 grams (6 quarter coins). The blades have to be big, so they couldn't use a quadcopter design. The counterrotating blades have improved aerodynamics. The story of how they tested the helicopter on earth is amazing.
This Helicopter Is Now On Mars!.

Is there really enough atmosphere for a helicopter drone to work?

I woulda designed a few kites. Use thin wire as the string, doubling either as antenna or power delivery.
