J.J. Abrams is producing the feature, which, according to sources, is being set up as a Black Superman story.

Acclaimed essayist and novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates has been hired to pen the script for a feature reboot of Superman that will be produced by J.J. Abrams.

“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” said Coates in a statement to Shadow and Act, a website dedicated to the African diaspora in the arts. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America's most iconic mythic hero."

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,” said J.J. Abrams in the statement to S&A.

Number 5 was a revitalized Clark Kent, in a black suit and mullet.

Why do all these meta humans wear their briefs on the outside?

I don’t watch any movies JJ is involved with. His style relies on distracting, overdone special effects.

Lens flares. Lots of lens flares...

They can’t take Batman away from us. Can they?

Superman artist Joe Shuster was inspired by the circus strongmen of his era.

Later characters were inspired by Superman.

One in particular is supposed to have inspired him, Zishe Breitbart. In the children’s book about him I used to read my granddaughters, there are pictures of him in a red cape, but none in the trunks over tights thing. In the image library available on DuckDuckGo, there are pictures of him in trunks, but no tights. Must have been other strongmen in the mix.

It was from the comic book series “Superman: Red Son”.

It was a “What if...” type story where Superman crash landed and was raised in the Soviet Union instead of the US.

Instead of “truth, justice and the American way” he is a champion of “the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact”.

It actually was kind of an interesting story.
