Sorry, in my book falsely attributing work to an author is acting out of malice.
I agree; especially when getting people to believe it and pass it on so they can be ridiculed often seems to be the object.

I agree, but do we know for sure that the original author did not make it clear it was not really C.S. Lewis who wrote it and he was just trying to make a point by emulating the Screwtape Letters style?
The quotation could have gotten passed around from person to person and site to site and the fact that it wasn’t Lewis gotten lost along the way by someone passing it along and carelessly leaving off the part that it wasn’t really Lewis who wrote it?
