‘Frasier’ Revival With Kelsey Grammer Set at Paramount Plus
Variety ^ | Feb 24, 2021 | Joe Otterson

The “Frasier” revival has officially been ordered at Paramount Plus.

Original series star Kelsey Grammer will return in the title role in addition to executive producing. Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli will serve as writers and executive producers, with Grammnet Productions’ Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon also executive producing. The series will be produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammnet Productions, exclusively for Paramount+. The announcement was made as part of ViacomCBS’ investor day presentation on Wednesday.

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Grammer. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

Grammer played the role of Dr. Frasier Crane in three different television series – “Cheers,” “Wings” and “Frasier” – tying the record for longest-running television character. He has won six Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Tony Award during his career. In total, he has received 18 Emmy nominations, eight Golden Globe nominations, 16 Screen Actors Guild nominations and two Tony nominations. He is also currently set to star in a multi-cam comedy at ABC opposite Alec Baldwin.

He is repped by UTA and Vault Entertainment.

“’Frasier’ is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”

Grammer has been trying to get the revived show off the ground for some time. “Frasier” remains one of the most successful sitcoms of all time, having won 37 Emmy Awards over the course of its 11 seasons and 264 episodes on NBC. The series also starred David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin, none of whom are currently attached to the revival.

John Mahoney was gay, look it up, he was living with his partner of 30 years when he died.

Never remember a black in any of the episodes. So probably two blacks (neighbor), one asian-interior decorator, What else??

You know I can’t remember a black character on that show either, even as a guest or minor role.

A great show in its original incarnation. But no John Mahoney now... and these retreads rarely reach the level of the first version. Can they not come up with something new?

Frasier is a spinoff of Cheers. So this show has the potential to do something similar but at the same time, it needs to go into a different direction in a new setting with a different cast.

I believe a resident of Frasier’s building was (is) black. That character’s mom, black, was a love interest to Marty, IIRC.

Jane Leeves was a Benny Hill girl. What a doll.

The dad and Eddie are dead. The rest of the cast are hardcore leftists, what’s the point? Unless they want to use it to cancel Kelsey ala the Roseanne reboot!

I think Kelsey has the worst family history story that I’ve ever heard.

Kelsey Grammer has spent 20 years as Frasier Crane.
9 years on Cheers and 11 on Frasier.

The actor who played Frasier’s father passed away a few years ago.

I remember a black waiter in a scene in the Valentine’s Day show. I loved the part where Frasier went to his new (female) ad exec’s hotel room, and couldn’t read her mixed messages about whether she wanted him to stay the night. So as she spoke from the bathroom, he kept taking his pants off and putting them back on again.

Awww c’mon! Leave well enough alone!!! The writers will be different and the actors aged.

Let us have our memories which are our dreams.

Did Niles ever get out of prison after he threatened his brother?
