Yes, they stole everything they could get their hands on, and continue to do so.
Yes, they do produce a lot of crap.

They know this, but it produces jobs and income...
They also know that you will run out of fools to purchase crap products. And there is a better return upmarket.

That said, An engineer that I once worked with did QC work in China.
He said they go well beyond the usual study of design specifications in order to save.
They will cut any corner possible.
But they are learning.

So this is the way I see it.
China has two mindsets about the things they make and sell. Yes, they actually can make quality stuff when they want to.
But they also realize there’s a whole world out there that will buy crap and not know the difference.
So they intentionally segment what they sell. And they have gotten Americans to believe, through such intermediaries as Walmart and other bargain and discount sellers, that you should just be buying crap, and when it breaks a year later, you just buy more crap.
