Upon looking closer at the details of the accident, the first thing I noticed was the distance the sign traveled and the time it had to fall. I think my first estimates do not add up. For one thing, the sign landed about the distance between the two power poles, which I estimate to be 100 feet apart. The sign had one set of the two posts still in the ground. I believe that post was about 4 feet high—not the 5 feet I first estimated. It had .5 seconds to fall 4 feet (Newtons law). For it to travel 100 feet in .5 seconds would mean it was traveling 200 feet per second or, 136 miles per hour. Something (Tiger’s windshield) had to propel it further to increase the distance traveled or interrupt it’s rate of decent.
