Your husband sounds like my ex-son-in-law. Taking a gun to kill an animal to eat no matter what kind it is or how easy it would be to do it other ways. My ex-SIL used his rifle to shoot Salmon out of the creek on their way to span. There were so many you could just reach down and grab them.
P.S. I thought buck shot would spread out further then the neck.
He says he does not use buck shot in his .22, juts bullets and just in the head or neck. I know it’s not all over the bird.
His thing is mainly that he doesn’t want to catch the bird I think
