Yeah, most folks only keep one rooster, if they are like us they butcher them for meat. That’s DH’s job... he does it the hard way - chases them with a .22, lol. He skins them so we don’t have to pluck them. It sounds horrible, but it really isn’t as bad as I thought. I know my birds have had a good life and got to run around on an acre and do chickeny things and I feel better about it than buying chickens at a grocer. We do buy chicken from a local farmer too, and his chickens are raised like ours so I know they are happy birds.
We used to grab them and break their neck.
I feel the same way. The cows around here live in paradise. I’d much rather they have a nice life, then have it end humanely than have them suffer. I hated driving by the hot CA feedlots.

Are you talking a 22 rifle? I don’t really know anything about guns but if he kills the roosters that way wouldn’t it leave a lot of buckshot in them?
