I have had them be very sweet until they were about a year old. The good thing is they are very protective of their flock, the bad news is they can really do a number with those talons. There is a method for taking the hard outer sheath off the talon that some people do. Personally, I just go in there with a hoe - after flying at me a few times and running into the hoe, he keeps his distance. He must think it is my very long talon 😂

Well, thank goodness lysie whipped up another one for the rest of us!

Mornin’ all.....another nice day up here in the People’s Republic of Ontario. Maybe some rain, but don’t tell Lakeside Granny....I don’t want her to feel badly.

He stands there keeping an eye on me while they eat. I never turn my back on him though. Same with our billy goat - he is only 60 lbs but he has knocked down my 6’2” husband.

Lolo the kids are afraid to even walk down the driveway now. Yes, they sure are protective of their flock. You’re brave....a rooster flying at me like that would scare me lol. I suspect I know what’s going to happen to him....and it involves a block, a blade and a pot.

I still have my softball swing 😉. It sounds mean but I sent him flying a few times. That took care of things at least for me. But I wouldn’t let a child near him for sure.

Atta girl. My daughter hoofed him a few times when he came after her, but he kept right on coming. Maybe a stick or a hoe would send a more convincing signal.

I just fear that they would go for the eyeballs. Audrey is little - he could jump up at her, no problem. I think they need to get rid of the nasty bird. He could be about 2 years old.

I learned just the other day that they will go for a leg sticking out front. I could never kick him faster than he could fly up! I would worry about the little ones. My son’s friend (when he was 8) got a 3” gash from our rooster and had to get stitches. I felt so bad and never expected (I was new to it). That one ended up up chicken and dumplings.

Sodpoodle posted this.....funny.

Guy goes into a bar, there’s a robot bartender. Since the minimum wage was increased to $15 the owner had to replace his regular human bartender.

The robot says, “What will you have?”

The guy says, “Martini.”

The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, “What’s your IQ?”

The guy says,” 168.”

The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration and medical technology.

The guy leaves, but he is curious..So he goes back into the bar.

The robot bartender says, “What will you have?”

The guy says, “Martini.”

Again, the robot makes a great martini gives it to the man and says, “What’s your IQ?”

The guy says, “100.”

The robot then starts to talk about NASCAR, Budweiser and John Deere tractors.

The guy leaves, but finds it very interesting, so he thinks he will try it one more time.

He goes back into the bar.

The robot says, “What will you have?”

The guy says, “Martini,” and the robot brings him another great martini.

The robot then says, “What’s your IQ?”

The guy says, “Uh, about 50.”

The robot leans in real close and says, “So, you people still happy you voted for Biden?”

Can I get a bunch of hens without a rooster?

Farming is sounding dangerous...

Geez Louise! Thanks for that, Lil. I’ll call over to the farm this morning and make sure they know to steer clear of the nasty bird....chicken and dumplings sounds about right.

You absolutely can. We always had chickens and no rooster. The kids played with them for hours. They get pretty tame - they used to hop on the handlebars of their bikes and ride up and down the street like a hood ornament. Chickens are nice, roosters, not so much.

If you don’t plan on raising baby chicks, no need for a rooster! I go long stretches without one, just have them from time to time to build our flock.

We have a fox who was picking off our roosters but he hasn’t come around since the rooster came into his own. So it’s a trade-off.

Sometimes we kept them until they got to a certain age (before they get mean) then raised another from a chick and butchered the older one for meat
