Why all of these drug threads? First off nobody wants their hash halved. If anything they want it doubled.
It’s a travesty what’s going on with the GPU market right now. It’s impossible to find a retail graphics card anywhere. You’re paying anywhere from 10% - 50% premium from scalpers and traders like on Reddit. Not worth it for the current crop of games, but for those of us still sitting on 1000 series nVidia cards, it would be nice to upgrade without dropping $1K.
Is this really all about gamers?
No concerns about ill intentioned nations using these ‘supercomputers’ for other calculations? Didn’t there used to be export restrictions?
I’ve been noticing a lot of interest in mining among a fresh crop of crypto investors. It’s a good way to get a nuts-and-bolts understanding of proof of work (PoW) cryptocurrencies, but not something that is likely to be profitable. (Although at the current run up in the crypto markets anything is possible.) Do it for the fun and the experience, but just invest directly via an onramp like Coinbase or Binance or Gemini to escape the “melting ice cube” of holding USD.
Happy I already have my RTX 3080.
“ Nvidia sees this as “an important step to help ensure GeForce GPUs end up in the hands of gamers, “
Don’t they know their gamers are paying for their games by mining crypto
currencies while they sleep?
I just got the RTX 2060 :p
