I wouldn’t mind if they were just shooting themselves in the foot. My problem is they’re shooting the rest of us too.
The narrative morphs from “Ted Cruz is an idiot who doesn’t care about you” to “people on the right don’t care about you, just look at Ted Cruz!”
When you roll out on vacation while people are freezing to death in their homes, that becomes an easy case to make.
No, it is the bad ones, like Lyn’ Ted, that shoot themselves in the foot. Not all Republicans are as easily discredited and deserving of criticism.
I think more Democrats shoot themselves in the foot and worse. The MSM magnifies the snafus of Party R while burying the sins of Party D.
Democratic politicians do too, just the mainstream media doesn’t give it the same amount of breathless coverage.

Nobody ever said that all Republicans are “politically smart”. Otherwise, they would control the White House and Congress.
Cruz was making sure his daughter would be safe in a gang-riddled city, Cancun. That is the duty of a father!
