LOL, I remember those.
I know my 87 year old aunt wouldn’t answer her phone during the RLshow. I suggest we reach out to his fans today that are going to have a difficult afternoon today.
There was a gentleman on the radio this morning who recounted a story when he was a radioman on a navy submarine.
While submerged there was a trailing antennae wire used for communications.
He started hearing the helm getting orders to change course port 2 degrees... change course starboard 3 degrees.
He realized the captain was tuning a 2 billion dollar submarine so the AM signal was clear enough to hear Rush’s show.
Thank you!
I had the opportunity to go see his tv show when it was airing, but somehow talked myself out of it, and to this day I still regret that decision.
Back then I also couldn’t afford one of his custom ties, but it was nice to see them on his TV show.
I remember that episode! IIRC, the 1st one I watched. Those ribbons!
My station in Little Rock must have picked him as soon as he went national. I vividly remember his coverage of Dukakis (The Loser) in the ‘88 campaign.
Back then he would challenge the first caller of the day and would sometimes abort them if they weren’t up to the task.
I loved the Peace Updates, the Gorb-asms and the like. He got away from those as the show matured, and that made it a bit less fun.
The summer of ‘it can’t get any worse’ from the callers that led to Clinton. The angry hand grenade with a bad haircut AKA Ross Perot.
The story of the mouse in the garbage can.
His announcement that he was going deaf. Haven’t seen much acknowledgement that he maintained his #1 position for 20 years without being able to hear....
His long absence for his addiction.
His love of Mannheim Steamroller. His goodbye over Silent Night destroyed me. That piece always makes me tear up as it is, but now it will be inexorably linked to Rush’s departure.
I thought he should have been more critical of Trump during the campaign and didn’t listen as much for a while, but I can’t quite wrap my mind around the fact that he won’t be there for us any longer.
Dittos.
Now waiting for the media slimes to come out of their sewer to bash Rush.
I’ve been a caller on Prager, Gallagher, Hewitt, and Dennis Miller (many times) and even once shared a long ten minutes with Scott Baio when he hosted for Miller. However, I’ve never called in to Rush and that was because the quality of his audience of callers were usually extraordinary; To make it on to his show, should have been a high achievement for anyone. However, I do remember one lady caller, twenty years ago, who only called to gush over Rush and getting on air with him. He really got a kick out of it and made her feel like a million dollars, even as he teased her a bit about being so corny! Will miss him very much.
Some things I remember:
1. The Rev. Louis Farrakhan commercial for “Million Man Math.. made easy!”
2. Rush’s impression of James Carville, and the Larry King promo with Carville telling everyone that Ken Starr was a little green man from mars getting all your kids hooked on cigarettes.
3. Anytime he talked about his cat.
4. His “True story of Thanksgiving” he did before the Thanksgiving break every year.
5. The “We meet at dawn” speech the day before election day.
6. When President Trump would call in.
7. When he talked about music — as a former DJ he had a lot of musical knowledge.
I found Rush in May of ‘89 and was with him until the end. I loved all the great “updates” he did in the early years, and his parody songs were fantastic. He would sometimes use the phrase “don’t doubt me”, and he was always right.
One phone call that I’ve always remembered happened in 2000. It may have been on election day, or right before. A caller said how excited he was that the Clinton years were almost over and how it looked like Bush was going to win. Rush said, “Yeah, it feels like being a kid on Christmas Eve.” I don’t know why that stuck in my head, but I never forgot it.
Rita X was hilarious, Rush just let her be crazy.
One was a dollar bill folded into a ribbon shape.
I folded one and wore it on vacation.
Got questions, and also some recognition.
I will look for it. It’s on a hat.
I remember when Rush would play a favorite of his songs, the one by Paul Shanklin, about the late Senator Ted Kennedy, based on the song, “The Wanderer”.
I’ll add a few more:
8. If I remember this correctly there was a young lady who called in and Rush wound up making an agreement with her to cover her college tuition.
9. He had some of best bumpers, probably due to his music knowledge, and during Christmas season he would play Mannheim Steamroller.
10. When he announced his deafness.
11. When he announced his addiction and his hiatus to go to rehab. I listened to WMAL in DC during that time and I remember Chris Core afterwards starting a big discussion about pain management, pain killer addiction.
12. When he would surprise callers by gifting them a sleep number bed, or some other prize.

In 1991 a co-worker told me about rush. Back then we all had little radios in our offices. A few of us would eat lunch together for an hour in one of our offices and listen to Rush together. I was 32 years old..... and it was a great time in my life. Rush did not convert me. He just magically said what we thought.... and in such an entertaining way.
Classic tradition
For over thirty years listened about every week day at noon either in my car during lunch or in my office. Going to be difficult for the next few days.
I always enjoyed him when traveling with my wife and just listening when driving. Will miss him this summer as we are traveling to Florida. Really hurts thinking about him not being with us.
Too many humorous things I’ve heard over the years to mention. His work with Paul Shanklin was priceless. Jessie Jackson’s version of Paul Anka’s “Having my Baby” and Rev Sharpton’s version of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” / “Feed Caroline” were hilarious.
Here ya go.
