I had intended to use this cold spell to get some meat from our freezer canned up. Makes more sense to me to run the canner when the heat is needed. I haven’t felt the electricity was stable enough, plus I don’t think the electric coop needs all my burners pulling extra power.
Will have a few good meat canning days before warm weather. I baked some of my bread in the fireplace and it was tasty. Power was on and I baked most in the oven but wanted to experiment with fireplace bread. It had a slight smoky flavor that I would not have expected to like in bread. But I really liked it and I am not fond of bread.

So how did you bake it in the fireplace? Did you use a dutch oven?
What kind of contraption do you use to cook on/in your fireplace? We have cast iron pots and pans , but couldn’t figure out how to use over logs. Thankfully we had a camping cook stove with little propane bottles and we had heat every so often so we made do, but want to have something better next time. ( we had ordered 2 small generators but th yes hadn’t arrived yet). But we always have lots of wood delivered for our fireplace So that’s something we could always count on.
I think I need some kind of small grill rack thing with legs or
something
