WARNING BLACKOUT SLIDE:
You are in the Southwest part of the state. We are in the Ameren UE MO./Illinois section. Our former supplier Arkansas-MO was purchased and combined with Union Electric.
Amren MO?/Ill has stated that they have no plans for rolling blackouts. Yet we already do all the stuff that was listed to keep electric usage low - because here it is very expensive so we try to keep usage down in our all electric home.
Our great room is nice and warm—due to the fireplace insert, and that keeps the central heat from kicking on.
I do have a small heater in the basement by the computer. When the temp dropped to 60 degrees in that room today, I finally gave in and turned on the baseboard heater. Had to pull the couch out to the middle of the family room. It got to 68 degrees now.
Hubby has been promising to test the generator for the last 3 months, but didn’t ever do it. So if our electric goes out and the generator doesn’t work — someone is gonna be in big trouble.
He did finally wind up getting fuel for the Kerosene heaters, but then you have to worry about ventilation. SMH

My daughters and I passed out from using a kerosene heater but by merciful intervention I came too, turned off the heater and put it outside never to use again, and dragged daughters out into the fresh air. I knew nothing about them, was sort of renting, and homeowner just brought it to me and said use it, no warning about venting etc. I was fresh from HI and had no clue. I would never use one again.

I had never heard of the Southwest Power Pool, and was I amazed to see it extended from North Dakota south to include parts of Texas!
AMMO - or Ameron-MO - they were good all weekend. I deal a lot with AECI, since my group is the reliability coordinator for them. Down in SW MO, AECI is intertwined with companies that fall under the Southwest Power Pool, and SPP was deficient today for a few hours. Not as critical a situation as in Texas, but they did have to do some rolling blackouts in a few areas. Springfield, MO, was one of those areas.
I only keep tabs on this because I’m in the electric utility industry and I do care about my “constituency”. :)
I’m glad that you’re able to stay warm there. 60’s a little chilly, but then again, great sleeping temperature if you have adequate blankets and clothing. I generally turn the thermostat down to the low 60s for sleeping because I seem to sleep better that way. Maybe I’m part bear. Like Meyer-bear-pig. :)
