I agree on honoring Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthday. I mean, who needs a day off for Warren Harding?

I can agree with honoring Washington, but not Lincoln, mainly because if you honor him, where do you draw the line? Why does Lincoln get a holiday to honor him and not Coolidge? Or Polk? Or Cleveland? Or FDR? etc.

Or, shudder, Clinton?

Washington was the first president and set the standard in terms how a president’s term should end—he rode off into the sunset willingly, something that shocked the world back then.
