In their defense Market Basket is well known for having the lowest prices, and thus in my city they employ about 900 people in contrast to local Stop & Shop which has about a hundred.
I won’t even go into the failures of capitalism.
In preference to what?
Why don’t the offer a full pound of coffee instead of 11.something pounds. Not even a full 3/4 pound. Greed has become such an overriding principle in commerce that people revolt against it.
Helps foster fresh coffee? Meanwhile 79 cups is hardly out of line, as it is even less than others as below:

what about tea cups? Tea cups are about 4 oz. However children’s tea cups are about 2.5 oz.
What about coffee cups? My cup is 10 oz. Even Keurig recognizes that cups come in a variety of ounce sizes.
What about bra cups. bra cups have a very wide range of volume measures from the one oz. category to the several gallons variety. my preference is the 12 oz. to 14 oz. variety.
So you’ll spend $25 for the maker, filters and coffee and will have a months worth of coffee. I’ll be ager to hear about your side by side test!
Yes, i remember the strike quite well. There is a MB directly across the street from my office in NH. Plus I had a former neighbor who was a store manager back in the 90’s. He had started out as a teenage box boy/cart boy. They are very big on promoting from within.
I am sure your child will also remind you that the “board” was trying to raid the pension fund of the MB employees.
Most of them would have lost the majority of their profit sharing.
Actually, either Lowes or Home Depot(maybe both) was served with a Lawsuit for exactly that(the actual size vs. the nominal size) of lumber.
They were sued because they were advertising that they were selling a 1”x12”x6’ when the actual size is 3/4” x 11 1/4” x 6’. The same with all other dimension lumber such as a 2x4-8’ is actually 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” x 8’ that you pointed out.
I believe the case was in a court in California. The plaintiffs won because of false advertising. Now, whenever you go into one of those big box stores you will see that under the sign for 1x4’s it lists the actual sizes.
AKA, McDonalds CAREFUL COFFEE IS HOT.
What is the old joke about: What is a hundred lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start.
The professional coffee addicts just hook up a direct IV.
Whenever the Golden Rule is thrown out, nothing is golden.
:(
I have to fill my Mr. Coffee carafe to the 3 cup line to get 1 cup of coffee.
the tea cup in the picture on there coffee can is a 4oz cup
as stated ‘you need to fill the carafes to 4 level to get two mug cups
but hey, when do you think iran will have their bomb?
I am a Stop & Shop person. Never ever shopped in a Market Basket.
My first FIL had his rule of coffee! A dinner knife had to remain vertical for minimum of 12 seconds after being placed in a mug, of “boiled” coffee.
When I was in the military the coffee had to melt a spoon or it wasnt strong enough...they called it Axle Grease...
In my office I made the coffee...
I've heard the MB owner is conservative, too. Anybody know?
I know Market Basket is a favorite of Boston conservative talk radio host Howie Carr.
It was all well reported in the local News, most certainly easy to research on line.
My wife and daughter usually shop Market Basket. There are about a dozen supermarkets closer. It’s sorta like Wal*Mart. No one beats MB on price, but quality varies. She does not buy the house brand coffee.
FWIW, I measured am 11.3 OZ (320 gram) can of Chock Full of Nuts. 3 7/8 diameter by 5 1/2 inch height for a volume of ~ 64.86 cubic inches. Given 1.1082 Tablespoons per cubic inch (and assuming the can is completely packed) that would mean slightly less than 72 Tablespoons. Since some “unsettling” occurs when unpacking, expecting 79 (give or take) tablespoons from an 11.3 ounce can is not unreasonable. The instructions say to use one tablespoon per *six ounce* “cup”.
Were I the judge, I would throw out the suit, noting that the product is sold by weight, not volume, and that the plaintiff does not know how to make coffee, the “injury” is negligible, and the lawsuit is frivolous, and if he is not satisfied, he doesn’t have to shop at Market Basket.
XP, You might want to look into “Cold Brew”. Basically, you put ~ a pound of coffee in ~ a gallon of cold water and refrigerate for 24 hrs. Then filter through cheese cloth, a towel or something like that and store in the frig. When you want a cup of coffee mix the concentrated cold brew with boiling water (50/50). The Cold Brew is very smooth, and the concentrate will last a long time in the refrigerator. Since you don’t drink much coffee I would not skimp on the grounds; get a decent brand.
Ten bucks says that Mr Cohen...and his slimy lawyer...are looking for a quick, easy payout. I'd also wager that Mr Cohen is the type who'd fall out of his car writhing in pain if you tapped his rear bumper at a stop light.
