Amid a surge in high-profile assassinations and violent attacks, the Biden administration is indicating it will keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan past a May withdrawal deadline laid out in the U.S. deal with the Taliban.
President Joe Biden has talked about keeping U.S. forces for counter terrorism or to defend the U.S.-backed Afghan government against a rise in Taliban attacks, but it's unclear under what conditions, to what end and for how long after America's nearly 20 years of war.

Biden is mainly doing this because Trump wanted to get out of Afghanistan.
He may also be thinking how the military can be reformed into “agents of good” for the world or some crap and have the military build things for the muslims.
You can bet these are the sorts of things being discussed.

It’s all about the opium poppies. Afghanistan is the world’s #1 grower with more land devoted to opium poppy production than all other countries combined. Under Obama and Gen McChrystal, opium poppy cultivation exploded and continues to this day:
2000 - Afghanistan had 82,171 hectares of opium poppies
2001 - under the Taliban, only 7,606 hectares of opium poppies remained in Afghanistan
Enter the USA military
2007 - 193,000 hectares of opium poppies in Afghanistan
2013 - 209,000 hectares of opium poppies in Afghanistan
2016-2017 opium cultivation now covers 328,000 hectares in Afghanistan
It isn’t the impoverished Afghani people who are getting rich off the heroin trade.
Great. Let’s send more Americans to die for opium so the CIA can use it to fund their corruption in the name of national security.

One might also question why we have troops in Germany 75 years after WW2. Or why NATO when the Soviet Union is gone.
How many more wounded warriors must we make before we end this madness??? Everytime I see a WW Project add on TV, I think, “STOP IT!!!”
If the neocons had any sense at all they would install a US-led puppet government or else get the heck out.
That is what we should have done in Iraq:
Plan A: Don't go to war
Plan B: Go to war and install a puppet government until the natives are mature enough to run their own government
Plan C: Nuke the place from orbit
