It’s interesting that Nervous Nancy held onto the Article of Impeachment until *after* Trump no longer held office thus, as Trump response brief notes, all but ensured that John Roberts would *not* serve. If they’d sent the article over days before, Trump would have then still been in office and Roberts would have presides before the term ended and Roberts would then still be sitting. There is deep state strategery here, just not sure entirely what + how.

Well, according to some folks, Trump resigned on the day (11th) they took it up in the House.
He was not president when they voted in the affirmative (13th).

IIRC McConnell said he would not reconvene the Senate until Jan 19. This ensured no time for a Senate trial prior to the end of Trump’s term of office.
