The participants (Roberts and Mills) claim that it was "a total joke". If this was really a joke, then this should have been treated much more seriously at the the time. Shouting "no pandemic" in the midst of a pandemic is pretty much like shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater -- even if it's a "joke". If it was really a joke, both should have lost their jobs.
