H.R. McMaster wrote a book critical of the political responses to the war in Vietnam. It was called “Dereliction of Duty”.
He wrote it when he was a Major in the Army, and it nearly derailed his career by sidelining his promotion to BG the first time.

That strikes a bell! Gray matter a bit epoxied this late. I think military / industrial complex - War for war's sake - War without end. We were just cattle, pushed into the slaughter to make the elite richer and richer... maybe something like that.
