In one of nature’s mysteries, 15 states will soon witness the reemergence of Brood X — or the Great Eastern Brood — of periodical cicadas. These “large, winged, kind of scary-looking but mostly harmless flying insects known for their almost deafening buzz” emerge in-unison every 17 years.
Periodical cicadas have “black bodies and bold red eyes,” and spend 17 years lying underground in “wingless nymph form,” feeding on sap. While most cicadas travel as individuals or in small groups after reaching adulthood, periodical cicadas follow a strict schedule...
“The end of May through June, it can get pretty loud — if you are in an area where they are numerous, there can be hundreds of thousands, or millions, of them,”...
Raupp estimated that there could be as many as 1.5 million cicadas per acre, which would place the total population of Brood X in the trillions.
Brood X, “one of the largest broods of periodical cicadas in the nation,” will emerge in 15 states: Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

That is an all-important question, in my book as well.
Probably because Chinese processed bacon is just not up to American standards and is not allowed for import. That’s my guess.
Ever read the story about what happened to Egypt?
It sounds like every electric razor in the neighborhood has been turned on and the sound feed into a loudspeaker...
And they all voted for Joe Biden.
Let the NOISE begin
“Ever read the story about what happened to Egypt?”
Locusts. Good grief, I’m from the South and have lived with these critters all my life. Stop bringing biblical stories into something that happens all the time.
I reeeally don’t think you understand!
There are films on utube from people experiencing this. The sound isn’t very transmissible but for those filming the hoards of shells on the ground and on grass and trees, and live bugs crawling around....that is plain to see.
411 the Asians. They are total protein. 😉
In August the cicadas are so loud in GA you cannot hear yourself think after dark. Our chickens love them some cicadas.
Last time I saw them was in Jersey. Biggest problem we had was cleaning up the bird crap after the feast. Thousands of birds descended on my property.
They congregate around our sliding glass door and our Chihuahua tries to eat them . 😣
I remember those things when I lived in Southern Maryland in the ‘90s. As the bird flies, I lived about a mile from Pax River Naval Station and I thought the sound was a taxiing C-130. They were loud.
I heard and saw these evil looking things on Staten Island and it wasn’t no 17 years ago. I don’t think it was even ten years ago.
Yeah, and I’m going back just as soon as I can!
My old cat was in cat heaven when the last big hatch happened here. He had a pile of them he sat on like they were his eggs. He loved eating those things. Yech.
Lay in a good supply of windshield washer!
The Bidada
Looks like pork has been high since last Summer...up about 49% since then:

That because the Chinese own most of the pork industry (see Smithfield)
